Grayscale’s Strategic Ethereum Trust Retraction Filing Raises Questions Per a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Grayscale has withdrawn its 19b-4 filing for listing and trading its ether trust, known as ETHE. This development unfolds at a juncture when the general consensus among the community is that the prospects of the SEC greenlighting an ETH-based ETF are fairly low. Analysts and prediction markets have assigned a minimal probability to the SEC’s approval, with some even suggesting the likelihood is nil. After the withdrawal, James Seyffart, an ETF analyst at Bloomberg, addressed the retraction in a post on the social media platform X. “This is interesting,” Seyffart said. “Grayscale just withdrew their 19b-4 filing for an ethereum futures ETF. This was essentially a trojan horse filing in my view, in order to create the same circumstances that allowed Grayscale to win the GBTC lawsuit (approve futures deny spot)” [I don’t know] why they’d do this honestly.
