  • Registering gets money, finishing earns the most
  • Jiangsu is not the first time, but this time the amount is the highest
  • Marathon economy: one race drives 13 times indirect consumption
  • Innovative model attracts attention, but effects still need verification

According to China’s “The Paper” news, the Nanjing Xianlin Half Marathon officially started on April 12, attracting 12,000 runners to register, with an overall finish rate of 98.97%.

But what has sparked more public discussion is the housing subsidy policy simultaneously issued by Nanjing Qixia District: Finish the race to receive a 100,000 RMB housing subsidy, which has caused heated debate in Taiwanese communities: China has so many houses that they can play like this?

Registering gets money, finishing earns the most

According to official information from “Nanjing Qixia Release,” this race’s housing subsidy is divided into three levels: registered runners can receive a 20,000 RMB subsidy; successful participants can upgrade to 60,000 RMB; those who complete the full race can get a 100,000 RMB housing discount.

The subsidy conditions are: valid until May 31, 2026, applicable to 14 designated housing projects, with areas from 89 to 400 square meters, each participant limited to one property, and the subsidy is directly deducted from the purchase price, not usable for down payment.

In the past, common real estate promotional methods included: lowering down payment ratios, giving renovation gift packs, issuing consumption vouchers, but we have never seen a “running for house subsidy” before. This marketing creativity indeed adds more buzz.

Jiangsu is not the first time, but this time the amount is the highest

In fact, “marathon giving housing subsidies” is not the first innovation from Nanjing Qixia. According to Chinese media reports, at least 6 cities have launched similar policies, including Wuxi and Yancheng in Jiangsu, as well as Shaanxi Xixian New Area, Hubei Shiyan, and Jingzhou.

For example, in March this year, Wuxi Marathon attracted runners with a maximum 80,000 RMB housing subsidy, requiring only successful registration to enjoy a 50,000 RMB discount. Nanjing Qixia’s 100,000 RMB surpasses Wuxi, making it currently the largest-scale and highest-amount marathon housing subsidy plan nationwide.

Marathon economy: one race drives 13 times indirect consumption

In addition, data analysis shows that the economic driving effect of Chinese marathon events is quite significant. Relevant studies indicate that the proportion of indirect consumption by out-of-town participants in food, accommodation, transportation, entertainment, shopping, and leisure can reach 1:13.

The Chinese Athletic Association released the “2025 China Marathon Blue Paper” on April 4, showing that in 2025, there will be 594 marathon events nationwide, with a total participation of 4.54 million people; 284 A-class events directly generate economic benefits of 18.51 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%; the overall driving effect reaches 45.4 billion yuan, creating 183,000 jobs.

Innovative models attract attention, but effects still need verification

Of course, “marathon giving housing subsidies” is essentially a short-term traffic diversion strategy during the real estate adjustment period, and its actual conversion rate still needs time to verify. But it is undeniable that this kind of innovation opens new avenues of thinking.
