The UK government is seeking to attract Anthropic to expand its business in the UK, proposing an office expansion in London and a dual listing

GateNews

Gate News message, April 5, the UK government is trying to get AI company Anthropic to expand its operations in the country. Insiders say the range of recommendations the UK government made to Anthropic runs from expanding its office in London to a dual listing. The office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been supporting the work of the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and plans to raise this proposal with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei when he visits the UK at the end of May. Previously, the US government put Anthropic on a blacklist, concluding that the company poses a national security supply-chain risk, because Anthropic refused to allow the military to use its AI chatbot Claude for US surveillance or autonomous weapons systems. Currently, a US judge has temporarily blocked the implementation of the blacklist, and Anthropic has also filed a second lawsuit over this supply-chain risk determination; the case is still pending.
