Solana ecosystem Perp DEX protocol Drift Protocol reportedly hacked for more than $220 million! $DRIFT plunges 30% on the news

DRIFT-3,76%
JUP1,31%

This is definitely not an April Fools’ Day prank! On April 1st, the well-known decentralized perpetual contract protocol Drift Protocol in the Solana ecosystem was suddenly hit by a catastrophic hacking attack. According to multiple on-chain security agencies, the hacker exploited a vulnerability to drain approximately $136 million to $220 million worth of assets from the vault, including JLP valued at over $155 million. In response to this nuclear-level bearish blow, the DRIFT token plummeted over 30% in a single day, and some cross-chain services have urgently halted trading through emergency circuit breakers to prevent the crisis from spreading.

  • Vault drained: 41.7 million JLP transferred in a single transaction
  • Token crashes by over 30%
  • Official has not yet responded officially; urges users to pause interactions

On April 1, the first day of April, the Solana DeFi ecosystem suffered an epic security breach. The renowned decentralized perpetual contract trading platform Drift Protocol appears to have experienced a serious smart contract vulnerability, resulting in a ruthless hack. Initially, some in the crypto community still held onto the hope that it was an “April Fools’ Day hack,” but as hundreds of millions of dollars rapidly flowed on-chain, this real hacking incident has caused countless investors to lose their funds entirely.

Vault drained: 41.7 million JLP transferred in a single transaction

According to real-time monitoring data from multiple blockchain security firms, the attack likely occurred today afternoon through evening Taipei time. The hacker precisely targeted and attacked Drift’s vault, causing large amounts of user funds to be extracted abnormally.

On-chain records show that during the initial attack, the hacker transferred out approximately 41.7 million JLP (Jupiter Liquidity Provider token) in a single transaction, valued at up to $155 million. Currently, estimates of total losses from various security agencies range from $136 million to $220 million. Tracking data indicates that one of the hacker’s main wallet addresses (7RoMqGAcU7S6ESAhPDvB9iSXvASUhuoE8u7dYRxGBew9) still holds assets worth about $109 million, and is actively conducting mixing and cross-chain laundering operations.

Token crashes by over 30%

This billion-dollar-level hacking incident has triggered extreme panic in the market. The native token of Drift Protocol, DRIFT, experienced a sell-off wave following the news, plunging over 30% in the short term, and continues to fluctuate wildly at low levels.

Official has not yet responded officially; urges users to pause interactions

As of press time, Drift Protocol’s official channels have not released any formal confirmation or post-mortem report regarding the incident via X (formerly Twitter) or other platforms. The team is currently likely working urgently with security auditors and white-hat hackers to fix the code and recover stolen funds.

Security experts strongly recommend that until Drift’s official confirmation that the vulnerability has been fully patched, all Solana users should immediately revoke any related permissions to the protocol and suspend any deposit, withdrawal, or trading activities to prevent further property losses.
