Gate News bot news, according to Bloomberg, The Federal Reserve Board of Governors member Christopher Waller stated that the Federal Reserve may lower interest rates as early as next month.

“We could possibly do this as early as July,” Waller said in an interview with CNBC on Friday. The Federal Open Market Committee will hold its next meeting in Washington from July 29 to 30.

“I think we have room to cut interest rates, and then we can see how inflation is doing,” he said, adding that the central bank might pause interest rate cuts if needed.

Waller’s comments came after Federal Reserve policymakers decided on Wednesday to keep interest rates unchanged. According to their median forecasts, officials also continued to suggest that they expect to implement two rate cuts before the end of 2025.

Seven decision-makers indicated that they do not expect an interest rate cut this year, suggesting a clear divide within the committee.
