According to Gate News bot, The Block reports that French authorities have allowed Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov to leave France for the second time since being detained in August 2024, as he is under investigation for alleged illegal activities on the messaging platform.

According to the French newspaper Le Monde, Durov can only go to Telegram’s headquarters in Dubai and can only travel for 14 consecutive days starting from July 10.

In March of this year, French authorities only allowed Durov to stay in Dubai for a few weeks.

In addition to business reasons, Durov also had personal reasons for going to Dubai.

“I have a son who was just born, and I missed the first few months after his birth. He still doesn’t have a passport because I wasn’t in Dubai when he was born. I also have a teenage son who is studying at a boarding school in Dubai, and he just broke his arm, with no parents around to take care of him,” Durov told the French conservative newspaper Le Figaro.

Previously reported, agents from the French National Anti-Fraud Office arrested Durov on August 24, 2024, in connection with a large-scale cybercrime investigation.

Telegram is a secure messaging platform that supports the Layer 1 blockchain open network (TON). The native token of this network, Toncoin, has reached a trading volume of 128.4 million USD in the past day. The market capitalization of this token is currently 7.2 billion USD.

In the summer of 2024, Toncoin and TON experienced rapid growth, mainly due to the blockchain-based mini-programs within the messaging platform, such as Hamster Kombat and Notcoin. The Block’s data dashboard shows that the number of active addresses for TON peaked at 1.44 million on October 2, 2024, and as of June 17, it has currently reached 130,000.
