On April 29, according to The Block, crypto industry leaders jointly sent a letter to the White House and crypto czar David Sacks, urging the Trump administration to end the Justice Department’s “ultra vies” prosecution of software developers, especially the case against Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm. The letter stressed that developers should not be held criminally liable for the use of their code by third parties, noting that such an approach contradicts Trump’s promise to make the United States a “global crypto capital.” Storm’s trial is scheduled for mid-July after being charged with money laundering and sanctions violations for operating a crypto hybrid service. Although the Trump administration has adopted several crypto-friendly policies, the Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York does not appear to have received information from the Justice Department’s latest guidelines.
