CoinWorld news reports that on April 7, citing a diplomatic memorandum from the UK’s The Times, Iran’s current Supreme Leader, Muqtada·Hame-nei, is reportedly unable to carry out his duties and is currently receiving medical treatment in the holy city of Qom. The report says that Muqtada’s injuries are severe, he is in a coma, and he is receiving treatment for “serious” health conditions, making him unable to take part in any decisions involving the government. This memorandum obtained by The Times впервые discloses the location of the Supreme Leader. The central city of Qom (located 87 miles south of Tehran) is regarded as a holy site in Shia Islam. Although U.S. and Israeli intelligence agencies previously said they had tracked his whereabouts, with the deadline set by Trump approaching, if Iran’s senior leadership were in a power vacuum, it would undoubtedly add significant uncertainty to the current turbulence in the Persian Gulf.
