In the power struggles of real-world politics, the most important goal for rulers is to maintain power and security, rather than mechanically adhering to moral commitments. If a ruler's behavior pattern is too fixed and their stance remains consistent, opponents can easily observe and understand their decision-making rules over time. Once these patterns are identified, they can be targeted and exploited, putting the ruler at a disadvantage in the game. Therefore, in complex political environments, maintaining strategic flexibility and even reserving some uncertainty in statements and actions can serve as a form of self-protection. When opponents cannot accurately predict your next move, it becomes difficult for them to design targeted strategies in advance. This unpredictability itself creates a deterrent and defensive mechanism. In other words, in the competition for power, stability of principles is important, but excessive predictability often indicates strategic weakness, while appropriate uncertainty can expand operational space and increase survival chances. This is the essence of "The Prince."
