Jinshi data news on August 5th, according to two people familiar with the operation, Libya’s largest oil field, the Sharara oil field, was forced to gradually reduce production over the weekend and completely shut down on Monday. The oil field received an order to cut production last Saturday, and the reason for the production cut is not yet clear. The Libyan government said on Sunday that the closure of the project was “political blackmail,” but did not provide detailed explanations. Some local media cited a letter from the oil field operator Akakus Oil, stating that the reason for the closure of the Sharara oil field was due to protests to improve social and economic conditions. Other news media attributed this to Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of military strongman Khalifa Haftar, who leads the Libyan National Army controlling most of the eastern and southern regions, and has implemented blockades in the region in recent years.
