Switzerland and Germany signed a protocol to jointly purchase multiple ground-based air defense systems.
Jin10 reported on July 3 that Switzerland and Germany agreed to jointly purchase multiple ground-based air defense systems, which is one of the measures of the European Sky Shield initiative. The two countries are promoting cooperation in defense procurement. On Thursday, the Swiss government stated in a press release that the agreement is expected to purchase medium-range ground air defense systems from the German manufacturer Diehl Defence. The statement indicated that negotiations with the manufacturer have been largely completed, and a contract is expected to be signed in the coming weeks. This agreement aligns with the new defense strategy proposed by Switzerland last month, which stipulates that at least 30% of its weapons must be purchased in Europe. The European Sky Shield initiative was launched by Germany in 2022, and Switzerland signed on last year. The project involves joint procurement of air defense and missile defense systems by participating countries, aiming to improve cost efficiency and flexibility.
