The US suspends tariffs on certain countries, SPY call options prices rise 9 times.
Gate.io News bot message, at 1:18 PM Eastern Time on Wednesday, Trump announced on social media a suspension of tariffs on certain countries. Following the announcement, the S&P 500 index immediately pumped by 9.5%.
Market data shows that before the announcement, the trading volume of some options contracts significantly increased. Trade Alert data indicates that when the SPY( tracking the S&P 500 index ETF)'s stock price was at $501.50, about 5,105 contracts of SPY call options (strike price $502) were traded at around 1:00 PM Eastern Time at an average price of $4.20. Subsequently, the stock market surged, and these options prices soared to about $42. If all 5,105 contracts of call options were held, their market value would skyrocket from approximately $2.14 million to about $21.44 million.
