Roadmap and Future Development

This module outlines the development roadmap of ZKBase, focusing on future innovations including the Bitcoin-compatible ZKEVM, improvements to cross-chain bridges, and enhanced functionality for decentralized exchanges.

The future innovation of ZKBase

ZKBase has ambitious development plans for 2024 and beyond, one of which is to develop a Bitcoin-compatible ZKEVM (Zero-Knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine). This solution will enable smart contract execution on both Bitcoin and Ethereum networks, greatly enhancing the platform's cross-chain functionality. The launch of Bitcoin ZKEVM will support decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts to run on the Bitcoin network, expanding more application scenarios for developers and users.

Another important milestone is the progress of cross-chain bridge technology. These cross-chain bridges will facilitate the transfer of assets between Ethereum, Bitcoin, and other Layer-2 solutions. ZKBase plans to build a fully decentralized cross-chain bridge, eliminating the reliance on third-party intermediaries and reducing potential security risks. This feature will help facilitate the free flow of assets and liquidity between blockchain platforms, paving the way for the integration of multi-chain ecosystems.

Milestones and Expected Results

In the first half of 2024, ZKBase plans to complete the development of cross-chain bridges, including full support for ERC-20 and BRC-20 tokens. This will significantly enhance interoperability between Ethereum and Bitcoin, allowing users to freely transfer assets between the two chains. In addition, the introduction of cross-chain exchanges will support decentralized trading between the two major networks, expanding liquidity and use cases for users in both ecosystems.

The upcoming ZKSwap (Bitcoin version) will support the wallet function of BRC-20 tokens and introduce a wider range of automated market maker (AMM) tools. The team is also developing a native DEX solution on Bitcoin, which will utilize the infrastructure of ZKBase to support direct trading of BRC-20 assets on the Bitcoin network. This integration will provide liquidity solutions and advanced trading capabilities for the Bitcoin DeFi ecosystem, making ZKSwap one of the core DeFi platforms in the Bitcoin space.

As part of the long-term vision, the team plans to integrate more advanced ZK-Rollup technology to further enhance the scalability of the platform and reduce transaction costs. The ultimate goal is to create a more scalable, faster, and lower-cost Layer-2 platform that supports various decentralized applications (dApps). In addition, the roadmap also includes the deployment of a decentralized computing marketplace, allowing users to trade computing resources and add more use cases to the ZKBase ecosystem.

By the end of 2024, ZKBase hopes to establish itself as a leading Layer-2 solution through significant progress in cross-chain interoperability, decentralized trading, and computing resource trading. These milestones will enable the platform to support a wide range of applications from DeFi to NFT across multiple blockchain networks.

Highlights
