Been thinking a lot about this lately - while everyone's chasing the next shiny AI crypto, there's one that might be hiding in plain sight and honestly flying under the radar for most people.
Ethereum. Yeah, I know it's not technically an "AI crypto" in the traditional sense, but hear me out.
Vitalik actually came back recently with some interesting takes on how Ethereum could reshape the AI landscape. His core argument is pretty compelling: blockchain's decentralized nature makes it genuinely suited for AI infrastructure. Think about it - instead of relying on some Silicon Valley behemoth to access powerful AI models, what if you could do it through a decentralized network?
The vision he's laying out is pretty ambitious. Ethereum could become the economic base layer for AI agents to interact, coordinate, and pay each other. That's not just incremental - that's potentially transformative if it actually works. And if Ethereum manages to establish itself as the go-to blockchain for AI development the way it did for DeFi, the upside could be massive.
Now, here's the reality check: this vision might be too idealistic. Monetizing decentralized AI is genuinely hard. You look at what OpenAI's been doing - all the drama around their business model - and you see that idealism doesn't automatically translate to sustainable economics. At some point you need revenue, and that's where things get messy.
But what's actually happening on the ground? There are already AI projects building on Ethereum right now - ChainGPT, Assemble AI, Virtuals Protocol. These are real experiments, not just hype. Any of them could become the killer app that makes this whole vision stick.
The convergence of AI and crypto is definitely a trend worth paying attention to. Ethereum trading around $2.36K right now feels like it could offer interesting upside if this AI narrative actually materializes. Unlike some of the one-off AI crypto plays from the past couple years that completely fizzled out, Ethereum has actual infrastructure and developer momentum behind it.
Worth watching closely, especially if you're looking at crypto to buy now with real structural tailwinds behind it.
