Just updated my SASSA details and realized there's a huge difference between the SRD grant process and permanent grants. If you're on SRD, the good news is everything's online through their portal. You just verify your banking details through a secure link they send via SMS, and it's pretty straightforward. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to actually verify everything, but at least you don't have to go anywhere.

But here's the thing - if you're getting permanent grants like disability or child support, it's a whole different story. You can't just update online. You actually have to go to a SASSA office in person, bring your original ID and a recent bank statement (has to be less than 3 months old), and fill out their Payment Method Change Form. They then send it to the bank for verification, which can take up to 21 working days. Plus, if you miss the 15th deadline in your month, you're waiting another cycle.

One important thing I learned: whatever account you're updating to must be solely in your name. No joint accounts, no third-party stuff. SASSA won't process it otherwise. And if you need to change your cellphone number, same deal - you'll need to verify it with an OTP they send. Honestly, the SRD process is way more convenient if you're just trying to verify and update your banking information quickly.
