In a move that could reshape the future of global technology, Intel has announced its participation in the TeraFab project, an ambitious tech initiative led by Elon Musk. The project aims to revolutionize the semiconductor industry by developing advanced chips, even suitable for space applications.

The TeraFab project represents an unprecedented collaboration between Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, with the goal of building one of the largest chip manufacturing complexes in the world, focusing on AI and advanced computing technologies.
The project aims to meet the growing demand for computational power needed to run self-driving cars, robots, AI systems, and future space applications.
👉 A Revolutionary Manufacturing Model
Unlike traditional models used by companies such as NVIDIA and TSMC, the TeraFab project seeks to unify all chip production stages within a single facility — including design, manufacturing, packaging, and testing.
This approach aims to reduce reliance on complex global supply chains and significantly accelerate production by manufacturing the entire chip in one industrial complex instead of distributing production stages across multiple countries.
👉 Intel’s Role in the Project
Intel is expected to play a major role in developing, manufacturing, and packaging advanced processors at scale.
In an official statement, the company said it will contribute to achieving the project’s goal of producing up to 1 terawatt of computing power annually to support advancements in AI and robotics.
It also noted that Elon Musk was recently hosted at its headquarters, signaling growing collaboration between the two sides.
👉 Chips for Earth and Space
The project aims to develop two main types of chips:
📌 Earth-based chips: for applications such as Tesla’s autonomous vehicles and the Optimus robot.
📌 Space chips (D3): designed to operate efficiently in harsh environments beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
👉 Ambitions Beyond Earth
In the long term, the project plans to launch solar-powered satellites to act as AI data centers in Earth orbit, leveraging abundant solar energy and reducing operational costs compared to traditional ground-based data centers.
