THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE!)🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂

“There was a time when money parted ways with a fool very quickly. Now, you don't have to be a fool for that” — said American politician Adlai Stevenson, and his quote is more relevant than ever. The crypto world is no different from fiat, and now, due to mistake, inexperience, or just plain stupidity, you can lose large sums quickly and mercilessly. Or you might unexpectedly become a dollar millionaire.

We will tell you about the most ridiculous situations that have happened in the crypto world recently.

Case One. Grandma’s Piggy Bank

It’s 2016, and cryptocurrency is rapidly gaining momentum. An American journalist, Mark Fauenfelder, buys 7 bitcoins for $3,000 and happily watches the crypto gold price steadily rise! “One step to wealth,” thought Mark, and happily bought a Trezor hardware wallet. Naturally, to access the wallet, he had to come up with twenty-four words in any order to protect it with a password. The man wrote the words on a piece of paper and stored it in a hidden drawer of his desk. He wanted to engrave these words on a metal plate so he wouldn’t lose them, but then he was called on a business trip to Japan. Mark decided to go there with his wife, but being a cautious person, he decided to put the access words under his daughter’s pillow. If something happened to the spouses, he thought, the bitcoins should go to the children.

As you understand, upon returning home, Mark couldn’t find the precious paper. They were cleaning the house and threw it away with the trash. It took Mark almost half a year to find the right combination of words. Half a year of stress, hunger, and nightmares. During this time, $3,000 turned into $30!

This terrible story ended happily for Mark!

Case Two. Trash Story

Now let’s go back to 2013. One of the crypto enthusiasts and Bitcoin holders was British man James Howell. During cleaning, James threw away the hard drive from a broken laptop into the trash dump. At that time, it stored 7,500 bitcoins, which was already worth $9.3 million. The realization hit him a MONTH later. An entire month, that “platinum” hard drive lay under mountains of garbage at the landfill. He went to the landfill to find the missing drive but was unsuccessful — the landfill was the size of a football field and was growing every month.

James still hopes to find the drive, but he faces serious bureaucratic problems — officials refuse to grant permission for extensive search operations because there’s a high chance nothing will be found, so there’s no point in disturbing the trash heaps.

And now, the cherry on this trash story: James knows his wallet number and sees all his virtual savings on it, but the only copy of the wallet keys is stored on that very hard drive buried in tons of garbage. It’s terrifying to think how unbearable it is to realize that you have more than $55 million but have no access to it.

Case Three. Apartment for $5

2009. Norwegian student Christopher Koch was researching encryption materials for a paper in 2009 and noticed Bitcoin. He decided to put his knowledge into practice and bought 5,000 coins for 150 kroner ( at the then exchange rate — about $26), completed his student paper, and completely forgot about this educational experiment.

The epiphany came to Christopher in 2013 when he accidentally saw news that Bitcoin’s price had reached a record high at that time. After some quick calculations, he realized that he had about $886 thousand or around 5 million kroner. Cashing out a fifth of the amount, he bought an apartment in a prestigious district of Oslo, and kept the rest for the future. Thus, Christopher’s apartment cost him only $5.
