Gulf States Issue Joint Statement: We Reserve the Right to Respond to Iranian Attacks
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia strongly condemned Iran's recent "unacceptable and unjustified" attacks. In a joint statement by the six Gulf countries, it was emphasized that these actions by Iran threaten regional stability, and it was stated that "These attacks are a clear violation of sovereignty and contrary to international law." The countries declared that they "reserve the right to self-defense against Iran's unacceptable and unjustified attacks," and explicitly stated their right to give a proportionate response if necessary. The statement also noted that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states will act in unity and solidarity, and that an attack on any member state will be seen as a threat to all. This development comes after tensions between the US-Israel and Iran spilled over into the Gulf, and air defense systems in the region were heavily activated. The Gulf states sent a message of determination to protect their sovereignty and national security.
