U.S. stocks decline in pre-market trading, tech stocks mostly fall, gold, silver, and crude oil all drop collectively, and over 80,000 cryptocurrency traders get liquidated.

On February 17th, before the US stock market opened, the three major US stock indices futures all declined.

Technology stocks fell across the board before the open. As of the report, AMD, Micron Technology, Google, and Intel each dropped about 1%.

Silver mining stocks Hecla Mining, Coeur Mining, Silvercorp Metals, Endeavour Silver all fell more than 3%; gold mining stocks Sibanye Stillwater dropped nearly 6%, Harmony Gold declined over 4%, and Newmont decreased by 3%.

On the other hand, most popular Chinese concept stocks rose before the open, with Hesai up nearly 4% and Kingsoft Cloud up over 3%; AI application stocks declined, with SAP SE down nearly 3% and Applovin down nearly 2%.

Spot gold and silver prices suddenly plunged during trading, with silver dropping about 5% at one point, and gold briefly falling below $4,900 per ounce. Currently, gold is below $4,930, and spot silver hovers around $74.

Crude oil futures declined, with WTI crude and ICE Brent crude both down nearly 1%, and INE crude oil falling over 4%.

Cryptocurrencies also weakened, with major coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum all declining. As of 17:50, nearly 85,000 traders worldwide were liquidated.

According to CCTV News, the second round of indirect talks between the US and Iran began today in Geneva, Switzerland. The negotiations are being held under the coordination of Oman. On the 6th of this month, Iran and the US held indirect talks in Muscat, the capital of Oman. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations, but there are still serious disagreements on core issues.

CITIC Securities’ chief analyst of the metals industry, Ao Chong, told Southern Finance Media that the current situation is that geopolitical conflicts are escalating, and the upward trend in gold prices has not ended.
