Original Title: Metro Line 8 Construction Continues Uninterrupted

During the Spring Festival holiday, Tianjin was filled with warmth of family reunions, while at the construction site of Meijiang Road East Station on Metro Line 8 at the intersection of Jiefang South Road and Meijiang Road, a scene of vigorous effort was unfolding. Builders sacrificed time with their families, remained on the front lines of construction, and worked diligently to achieve the 2026 opening goal.

The reporter entered the station interior, where a few workers were standing on tiptoe, focused on installing aluminum ceiling panels, their movements skillful and swift. “Although we can’t have a family reunion dinner or chat during the New Year, just thinking that this subway will make travel more convenient for more people and help more families reunite easily makes all the hardship worth it,” said the workers.

Zhao Yang, deputy manager of the project zone for China Railway Construction Bridge Bureau’s Tianjin Metro Line 8 Phase 1 Project Section 5, moved among the construction sites, occasionally reminding workers to pay attention to safety. “So far, the main structure of the station has been completed, and during the Spring Festival, about 100 workers were on duty in our section, mainly pushing forward with interior decoration and auxiliary structures such as entrances and exits,” Zhao said.

At the construction site, Tianjin May Day Labor Medal recipient and project manager Chen Yue was carefully inspecting construction details. Having long been rooted in the front line of metro construction, he had led teams to overcome technical challenges such as rectangular top pipe jacking. “Holiday duty and technical breakthroughs are both commitments to the citizens,” Chen Yue believes. As a builder, participating in the construction of this livelihood line is both a responsibility and an honor.

Metro Line 8 and its extension are key backbone lines in the central urban area, approximately 23 kilometers long, passing through five districts including Xiqing and Nankai, with 21 stations. Once completed, it will connect with Phase 2 of Line 6, operating seamlessly, linking multiple residential areas, commercial centers, and historic districts. The line adopts GoA4 fully automated operation system, enabling convenient transfers with seven existing lines, effectively alleviating regional traffic pressure, improving the urban rail transit network, and enhancing citizens’ travel experience.

“Currently, the main structures of all 21 stations on Line 8 and its extension are completed, the shield tunneling has been fully connected, and the entire line’s short-track laying has been finished,” said Zhao Xiaoyang, director of the Major Projects Office of the Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Committee. During the Spring Festival, more than ten construction points on Line 8 operated continuously, with over 1,000 workers, supervisors, and managers on duty, fully advancing the line’s construction. “We are doing our best to accelerate progress and ensure safety, striving to bring this smart subway to citizens as soon as possible and inject new momentum into urban development,” he added.
