Everyday AI Express, the reporter recently learned from the China Iron and Steel Association that by the end of 2025, the ultra-low emission retrofit projects in China’s steel industry will be successfully completed, with over 80% of crude steel capacity achieving ultra-low emissions. According to Zhao Mingge, president of the China Iron and Steel Association, the “Three-Year Action Plan for Energy Efficiency Benchmarking in the Steel Industry,” launched at the end of 2022, has become a core strategy for energy saving, carbon reduction, cost reduction, and efficiency improvement. 143 cultivation enterprises’ blast furnace and converter energy consumption ratios decreased by 2.5% and 12.2% respectively in 2023, resulting in a two-year cumulative energy saving of 13.2 million tons of standard coal and a CO2 emission reduction of 34 million tons. Moreover, China’s steel industry’s green and low-carbon development capabilities continue to advance. Frontline low-carbon metallurgical demonstration projects such as the Baowu Hydrogen Carbon Cycle Oxygen Blast Furnace, Zhanjiang Steel’s near-zero carbon plant, and China Iron & Steel Research Institute’s pure hydrogen vertical furnace demonstration line have been implemented one after another, placing China at the forefront of low-carbon metallurgical technology innovation and application.
