Multiple provinces in eastern Cuba are experiencing power outages.

Cuba Power Union announced on the 4th that a fault occurred on the eastern transmission line of Cuba, causing power outages in multiple provinces in the eastern part of the country. The Cuba Power Union reported on social media that around 8:54 p.m. local time, a substation in Holguín Province in eastern Cuba experienced a fault, resulting in power outages in parts of the province, with complete power supply disruptions in Granma, Santiago, and Guantánamo provinces. The Cuba Power Union stated that relevant departments have initiated power restoration plans to reconnect the affected grid to the national power system as soon as possible and gradually restore power supply. Due to U.S. sanctions, Cuba has long struggled to import fuel and power plant equipment, with outdated power plant facilities difficult to update, leading to tight national power supply. Since October 2024, Cuba has experienced multiple nationwide blackouts caused by power facility failures, hurricanes, and other reasons. (Xinhua)
