Huang Dafu was teaching his five-year-old son to recognize characters, but the child's memory seemed to be poor. The characters he learned in the morning were completely forgotten by the afternoon.
A friend advised him, "Use real objects to help with teaching; it’s more effective. For example, when teaching ‘water,’ take him to play with water; when teaching ‘paper,’ let him touch the paper himself."
Huang Dafu found this advice very reasonable and followed through. Sure enough, his son's memory improved significantly.
One day, Huang Dafu was teaching his son the character “井” (well). Despite his efforts, his son just couldn’t remember it. Suddenly, he had an idea. He remembered a hole in the backyard of the villa, used for planting trees, and arranged for someone to reshape it into the appearance of a well. When his son saw the “well,” he immediately remembered it.
The next day, Huang Dafu was discussing business when he suddenly received a call from his wife saying that his son was missing. He hurried home, searched everywhere inside and out but couldn’t find him. In a panic, he had to call the police.
Eventually, the police found his son in the hole in the backyard. It turned out he had accidentally fallen in and fainted from the fall. Seeing his son covered in injuries, Huang Dafu was heartbroken and immediately had someone fill in the “dangerous” hole. After that, his son never dared to play in the backyard again and kept calling out nervously, “Well, there’s a well.”
A week later, his son's injuries healed. Huang Dafu took him out for a walk.
Halfway there, Huang Dafu stopped at a gas station to refuel and use the restroom, leaving his son in the car.
When he came out of the restroom and opened the car door, he found his son was gone again! He hurriedly asked the staff, but everyone said they hadn’t seen any child run out. This was truly strange.
Huang Dafu searched carefully again and suddenly noticed the back seat was gently swaying. He walked over and saw his son with a pale face, curled up in a ball, trembling all over.
“What’s wrong? Did I scare you?” Huang Dafu grabbed his son’s hand, but the boy clung tightly to the seat and refused to let go, trembling as he said, “There are wells… a total of 280 wells!”
“Where did all these wells come from?” Huang Dafu asked in surprise.
“Look!” the son pointed with his finger.
Huang Dafu looked in the direction his son was pointing and saw that on the gas station’s price display, it clearly showed 93#、97# and 90#.
