Mars Finance News, on January 23, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a NATO framework agreement has granted the United States “full and permanent” access to Greenland, emphasizing that there is no time limit. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also called on allies to increase security investments in the Arctic region to counter the Russian threat. However, the details of the relevant agreement have not been made public. Denmark reiterated that Greenland’s sovereignty is not up for discussion, stating that currently, the dialogue is only about Arctic security cooperation. Greenland’s Prime Minister also stated that he is not aware of the specific contents of the agreement and emphasized that sovereignty is an “untouchable red line.” Sources revealed that the U.S., Denmark, and Greenland may hold further negotiations to update the 1951 military access agreement and discuss restrictions on Russian investments in the area. The incident has already raised concerns within the EU about transatlantic relations, and local residents in Greenland are also confused about the future prospects.
