Movements of major investors in the cryptocurrency market are attracting attention. Earlier last week, a whale investor signaled to the market their intention to build a large short position. This short-selling strategy involves bold moves targeting top market cap cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Solana, and Ethereum simultaneously.

Concentrated Short Selling of Bitcoin, Sol, and Ethereum

According to on-chain analysis platform The Data Nerd, cited by PANews, a large investor tracked by 0x94d executed three substantial short orders.

Specifically, Bitcoin was shorted with approximately $69.93 million using 20x leverage. Solana was shorted with about $50.3 million under the same 20x leverage. Lastly, Ethereum was shorted with roughly $20 million at 20x leverage. The total size of these three orders amounts to approximately $140 million.

The Significance of the Expanded Short Position with 20x Leverage

The key point is that all these short orders utilized 20x leverage. This means the positions could be amplified up to 20 times relative to the original capital, indicating an extremely sensitive structure to market volatility. This whale investor’s short-selling strategy reflects a strong skepticism toward the market’s upward momentum and could also lead to increased market volatility.
