Major Shift in Financial Infrastructure: The Urgent Need for ISO 20022 Support and Why 6 Types of Cryptocurrencies Are Gaining Attention

On November 22, 2025, the international financial system will reach a major turning point. With the full implementation of the ISO 20022 standard, the current SWIFT messaging system is scheduled to be discontinued, fundamentally changing the mechanism of international remittances.

Migration from the Old System is Essential

Financial institutions that have relied on the old SWIFT technology must complete their migration to ISO 20022 by November 22. Regulatory authorities in various countries, including the Financial Services Agency, are also mandating all settlement institutions to adopt this new standard, leaving no room for delay. During this transition period, there is an increased risk of service interruptions due to system maintenance, and SWIFT is urging financial institutions to refrain from sending messages during designated times.

Ripple Effects on the Blockchain Industry

Interestingly, this shift in financial standards is also having a significant impact on the cryptocurrency industry. Six types of cryptocurrencies—XRP, XLM, HBAR, ALGO, IOTA, and XDC—are highly compatible with the new ISO 20022 technical specifications and are recognized as potential candidates for future integration into the financial system.

The reason these six assets are attracting attention is their high-speed blockchain settlement capabilities and their ability to support international remittances. Projects like XRPL (XRP Ledger) and Stellar Network (XLM) are already designed specifically for cross-border value transfer, making integration with standardized messaging protocols like ISO 20022 technically straightforward.

What Market Participants Should Prepare For

During this transition phase, the entire industry may face confusion. The coexistence of traditional financial settlement methods and new standards could lead to frequent delays in remittances and system errors. Investors and cryptocurrency users are expected to show increased interest in assets that support ISO 20022.

As the financial system is revamped, cryptocurrencies, which were previously peripheral, are increasingly becoming points of connection with central financial infrastructure. All eyes are on the developments expected within this year.
