The US Consumer Confidence Index has fallen to a red alert level:
The US Consumer Confidence Index decreased by 3 points in December, reaching 89.1, the lowest level since April.
This is the fifth consecutive month of decline.
Except for April, the index is currently at its lowest level since January 2021.
The Current Situation Index dropped 9.6 points to 116.8, the lowest since February 2021.
The Expectations Index remained unchanged at 70.7, the lowest since June.
The Expectations Index has been below 80 for 11 consecutive months, a level historically indicating an impending recession.
