#以太坊行情技术解读 Why do people always want to short $ETH?

Recently, I’ve been chatting with many traders and found an interesting phenomenon — there are quite a few people going long on BTC, but also many voices advocating for shorting ETH. What is the underlying logic behind this?

Some say it’s due to technical considerations; ETH’s performance relative to Bitcoin has indeed been weaker. Others look at it from a macro perspective, believing that layer 2 solutions have diverted some of the ecosystem’s vitality. There are also traders who simply base their decisions on historical volatility and risk-reward ratios — as long as shorting this asset can make money.

But the question is, is shorting $ETH really a good idea? The ecosystem is still evolving, and scenes like DeFi and Staking haven’t fully realized their potential. Maybe the problem isn’t with ETH itself, but with each person’s different understanding of risk.

Shorting ETH is short-sighted; L2 bleeding is real, but the ecosystem is far from over. People in the crypto space love to gamble on short-term fluctuations while ignoring long-term value,典

The guys shorting ETH are all shortsighted. The ecosystem hasn't even taken off yet, and they're rushing to short, a typical chase-the-rally and sell-the-dip logic. Wait, am I also shorting? I need to think carefully if I'm being an idiot. The Layer 2 solution sharding is real, but the mainnet strength can't be blindly denied. Even BTC has to admit this. Honestly, currently shorting ETH is purely betting on volatility, with no solid logic. Cracking under the pressure is only a matter of time.

Trying to make quick money by shorting ETH shows a big mindset issue. DeFi hasn't truly taken off yet, why the rush? Making money is hard, but losing money is quick. I've seen too many cases like this. To put it simply, the technical aspect is weak but the ecosystem is alive, stuck between both.

Shorting ETH essentially means betting on the ecosystem's death. I think that's too pessimistic. Layer 2 indeed diverts traffic, but that's not a bad thing; rather, it's an inevitable expansion. Those who purely short based on volatility will eventually get caught off guard and be wiped out. DeFi is still far from reaching its ceiling, so why the rush?

Shorting ETH shows a lack of understanding of the ecosystem's potential; DeFi is just getting started. Making quick money and holding long-term are two different things; see who can last until the end and laugh last. Splitting the vitality to layer two is a bit exaggerated; ecosystem differentiation is not decline. If you think the risk-reward ratio doesn't match, don't focus on ETH; try playing other projects. High volatility actually presents opportunities; how does that become a reason to short? BTC's rapid rise doesn't mean ETH is failing; betting against the trend is too dark-hearted. Honestly, right now, the mentality of shorting ETH is somewhat spiteful.

Shorting ETH is just a pure gamble on volatility. This logic is just too far-fetched. Ignoring the ecosystem and only focusing on candlestick movements will get you trapped sooner or later.

There are indeed many people making quick money by shorting ETH, but in the long run, most are betting on the wrong direction. DeFi is just getting started, so shorting now is a bit premature. To be honest, layer 2 sharding is a fact, but this also reflects a healthy ecosystem. Rather than shorting, it's better to look for promising projects within the ecosystem; money should be focused on the future.

Basically, it's an imbalance in the incentive mechanism. Short selling can make quick money, but the blame for the L2 sharding ecosystem can't be entirely placed on ETH. It's a governance design issue.

Those who short ETH are shortsighted. The rise of layer 2 actually means ecosystem expansion. In the long run, this is true empowerment.
