On June 27, according to Cryptonews, the Central Bank of Russia announced that the country’s central bank digital currency (CBDC) digital ruble will be officially launched nationwide on September 1, 2026. Russia’s largest commercial bank is expected to provide customers with a full range of CBDC trading options starting in September next year, while small and regional banks will follow suit in September 2027. The Central Bank of Russia has submitted a draft bill to the State Duma, hoping to quickly incorporate its requirements for the banking industry into Russian law. Legislators have previously stated that the Russian CBDC will achieve interoperability with digital currencies issued by other BRICS countries and may be used in the field of cross-border trade, helping Russian traders bypass sanctions.
