The U.S. Senate will hold its final vote on the GENIUS Act (Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act), which aims to create a legal framework for stablecoins nationwide, on Tuesday, June 17.
The Senate supported the bill in the first vote held on Wednesday, paving the way for the final vote. If the bill passes the Senate, the next stage will be a vote in the House of Representatives. The House Financial Services Committee passed its own stablecoin bill, the STABLE Act, in committee in May.
Stablecoin bills are progressing rapidly, with President Donald Trump, who has publicly expressed his support for regulations in this area, aiming to pass the bill by August.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated earlier this week that with the passage of the bill, the value of the U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin market could exceed $2 trillion by the end of 2028. According to the data, the market value of US dollar-backed stablecoins currently stands at $252 billion.
