The Ethereum Foundation will provide ecological grants in Q1 2025 to enhance Layer 2 efficiency and educational projects.
The Ethereum Foundation recently announced through its Ecosystem Support Program (EFESP) that it will allocate $32.65 million in the first quarter of 2025 to enhance Layer 2 efficiency and strengthen educational programs. This funding will be distributed across various fields including community and education, consensus layer, cryptography, and zero-knowledge proofs.
Specifically, the EFESP grants focus on supporting community and educational projects, with 37 projects receiving funding, including Ethereum conferences and hackathons such as ETHPrague and the first ETHiopia conference, to expand the global Ethereum ecosystem. Additionally, the funding also supports projects like the Arab Blockchain Developers Bootcamp, focusing on educational content creation and community building, and funds blockchain-related academic conferences and research centers.
The second largest category of grants focused on "cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs", for which a total of 16 projects were funded. These projects are mainly focused on advancing zero-knowledge proof technology, developing new cryptography tools, and researching post-quantum cryptography. In the "Consensus Layer" group, seven projects were also supported, including the projects of renowned mathematician Andrew Lewis-Pye, whose goal was to improve the security and performance of Ethereum's consensus mechanism.
In terms of "developer experience and tools", they sponsored 17 projects, with beneficiaries like BuidlGuidl focusing on creating mobile SDKs, building educational communities, developing analytics platforms, and improving validator tools, among others. Additionally, there are several projects aimed at optimizing the execution layer, including developing execution clients and optimizing Gas costs.
Overall, this funding will significantly strengthen the Ethereum ecosystem, ensuring that users can better enjoy the core features of blockchain while enhancing overall resilience and decentralization.
Finally, do you think that the investments made by the Ethereum Foundation will give Ethereum a more advantageous position in the competition of Layer 2? Leave your thoughts and views in the comments!
