BlackRock Bitcoin ETF's capital flow surpasses gold ETF 2025

Investment volume shifts towards Bitcoin

In 2025, gold is outperforming Bitcoin in terms of price. However, investment institutions are increasing their commitment to Bitcoin. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has attracted nearly 7 billion USD, surpassing the SPDR Gold Trust (GLD), the largest gold ETF in the world. Clearly, gold prices are leading Bitcoin this year, but the ETF capital flow tells a different story.

Compare Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) with gold ETF (GLD)

Although Bitcoin is rising slowly, BlackRock’s IBIT has brought in 6.96 billion USD in capital inflows. Meanwhile, GLD only attracted 6.5 billion USD. Investors are increasingly viewing Bitcoin ETFs as a long-term growth vehicle, more so than traditional safe-haven assets like gold.

Bitcoin ETF may outshine gold

ETF analyst Eric Balchunas believes that this trend is just beginning. He thinks that within the next 3-5 years, Bitcoin ETFs could triple the assets under management compared to gold ETFs, driven by demand from institutions and growing market confidence. Although gold leads in performance, Bitcoin is gaining the trust of institutions. The influx of capital into cryptocurrency ETFs is increasing, marking Bitcoin as no longer a niche asset but becoming a mainstream financial instrument.
