[Iranian Official: Iran Currently Has the Right to Legally Withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty] The head of the Iranian Parliament's Foreign Policy Committee stated that according to Article 10 of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran currently has the right to legally withdraw from the treaty. Article 10 of the Non-Proliferation Treaty states that if a contracting party determines that extraordinary events related to the subject of this treaty have jeopardized its national supreme interests, it has the right to withdraw from this treaty in order to exercise its national sovereignty. The country must notify all other contracting parties and the United Nations Security Council of its intention to withdraw three months in advance.
