Odaily Planet Daily News Two researchers help a man recover the lost password of his 2013 encrypted wallet, which contains 43.6 BTC, worth nearly 3 million dollars.
A man named Michael created a cryptocurrency wallet in 2013 and used RoboForm to create its unique password. Michael saved the password in an encrypted file and chose not to store it in RoboForm for security reasons. However, when the encrypted file was damaged, Michael lost access to the 20-character password required to access the wallet.
In 2022, Michael contacted Grand for help. Grand is a hardware hacker who had previously discovered missing Bitcoin in a Trezor wallet. In a video, Grand explained that he and his fren used a vulnerability in the "random number" generator of the password generator RoboForm, which connected the password to the specific date and time on the user's computer when creating the password. Although this issue was fixed in 2015, it should affect passwords created before that.
Michael transferred some BTC to two researchers, then sold a small portion, and now holds 30 BTC worth around 2 million USD. He told Wired that he plans to hold these BTC until their price rises to $100,000. (The Block)
