YouTube experienced a massive outage in multiple countries around the world this morning, 10/16. Not only was the main site unable to play videos, but YouTube Music and YouTube TV were also affected. According to statistics, nearly 400,000 users were impacted globally.

YouTube was down for nearly an hour and a half, affecting nearly 400,000 users worldwide.

YouTube experienced issues as early as around 7 AM, mainly reported from the United States.

According to the data monitoring platform Downdetector, the number of reports of failures began to rise rapidly from 7 AM. By nearly 8 AM, the situation reached a peak, with nearly 400,000 users reporting inability to use the services. At this time, there were widespread issues with YouTube's main site, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV.

Some users have encountered a black screen or error messages such as "An error occurred. Please try again later" on both the desktop version and the mobile app.

YouTube's music and television services are both down, with over ten thousand users reporting issues in the UK, US, and Australia.

During this nearly hour-long downtime, many users entered the YouTube platform only to find that videos could not be loaded, displaying a blank screen, or being blocked on an error prompt page, with YouTube Music and YouTube TV also affected.

Some users have reported that the instant streaming in Music is completely ineffective, but if the songs were downloaded locally before the failure occurred, they can still be played. In addition to the United States, which has the highest number of abnormal reports at 360,000 cases, the United Kingdom has over 60,000 cases, and Australia has about 18,000 cases of abnormal reports.

The scale is rarely seen and may involve network layer issues, possibly facing a DDoS attack.

Some foreign media believe that this scale of situation, which simultaneously affects multiple services, is more likely to be a problem at the architectural or network level than simply a server malfunction or regional disconnection.

Some media have also suggested the possibility of a "DDoS attack," and there are hacker organizations claiming responsibility for the attack on YouTube on Twitter (X), but these claims have not yet been officially confirmed or verified.

YouTube officially stated that the issue has been resolved, but the cause of the failure is unknown.

YouTube also issued a statement after the incident, acknowledging that there was an issue and that they are in the process of fixing it. Technical media further pointed out that this is not a localized failure, but rather widespread across multiple countries, with users reporting similar issues everywhere.

Around 8:30 AM, the official announcement stated that the issue has been fixed and users can resume normal use of the video streaming platform. However, YouTube has not publicly disclosed the detailed cause of the outage.
