British Banking Giant Barclays Announced a $132 Million Investment in Bitcoin! - Coin Bulletin
Global investment bank Barclays bought 2.47 million shares worth $131.2 million from BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF with IBIT code in the fourth quarter of 2024.
In its 13F report submitted to the Barclays U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC), it disclosed BlackRock's investment in the spot Bitcoin ETF. The bank stated that it purchased 2,473,064 IBIT shares worth 131,2 million dollars in the fourth quarter of 2024. This move marked the bank's first major investment in Bitcoin ETFs.
Barclays entered the Top 10 on IBIT
Barclays' investment has placed the company among the top 10 corporate investors of IBIT. However, this investment accounts for only 0.04% of Barclays' $356.9 billion portfolio. During the same period, Goldman Sachs maintained its leadership with 24 million IBIT shares and over $294 million worth of Fidelity FBTC investment, with a Bitcoin ETF position of over $1.6 billion.
Barclays' move comes after Grayscale's decision to liquidate its position in the Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF. The bank had a small position in this ETF in the third quarter, but completely shifted to IBIT in the fourth quarter.
Bitcoin ETF market continues to be active
BlackRock's IBIT ETF has reached a $56 billion asset under management since its launch in January 2024, making it the market leader. It has received a net inflow of $41 billion since its launch. This strong interest in IBIT indicates the increasing interest of institutional investors in Bitcoin.
