Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Firmly oppose Japan's new militarist provocations
On April 7, Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired a regular press conference. A reporter asked: According to reports, the Japanese government this month plans to formally amend the “Three Principles on the Transfer of Defense Equipment.” What comments does the Chinese side have on this?
Mao Ning said that many international scholars and well-informed people in Japan are deeply concerned about these developments. They believe that this indicates a fundamental shift in Japan’s post-war weapons export policy, and seriously violates provisions of internationally legally binding documents such as the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, as well as Japan’s Constitution and existing domestic norms. It also undermines the institutional safeguards put in place after the war to prevent Japanese militarism from rising again from the ashes. The international community must remain highly vigilant and firmly resist Japan’s reckless “new-type militarism.”
We urge the Japanese side to profoundly reflect on the history of militarist aggression, earnestly keep its commitments in the field of military security, and act prudently—so as not to go further and further down the wrong road. (CCTV News)
