On April 1, OpenAI completed a $122.0 billion funding round, bringing the company’s valuation to $852B. This marks the largest funding round the company has done to date, supporting its costly investments in chips, data centers, and talent.

Of the financing, which was prepared over several months, most of the funds came from three major technology companies. Amazon agreed to invest $50.0 billion in this round, while Nvidia and SoftBank Group each invested $30.0 billion. A large portion of Amazon’s investment ($35.0 billion) depends on whether OpenAI can go public or reach technical milestones toward general artificial intelligence. OpenAI also said it first raised more than $3.0 billion from individual investors through banking channels. OpenAI said the company currently generates $2.0 billion in revenue per month. Enterprise sales currently account for 40% of its revenue, and it is expected that this share will rise to 50% by the end of the year. (Caixin)
