Recently, the contracts for MORPHO and CHILLGUY were listed on a major exchange platform, and the story behind the latter is quite interesting. CHILLGUY is that meme character that blew up among Generation Z, especially on TikTok and Instagram. The character, created by American artist Phillip Banks, is basically an anthropomorphic dog wearing a gray sweater, blue jeans, and red sneakers. The vibe is simple: hands in his pockets, a calm smile, as if nothing matters.

What’s fascinating is that this chill guy became viral because he taps into something real in today’s youth. He’s the perfect representation of that “whatever” attitude—just existing without fighting too hard. It reminds you of Oxford’s 2022 Goblin Mode, that concept of going with the flow. Young people identify with this, especially when they face academic, financial, or social pressure. You see posts like, “The exams ruined me, but I don’t care—I’m just a chill guy.” It’s nihilism disguised as a meme.

The ironic part is that the meme became so viral that figures like El Salvador President Nayib Bukele and Elon Musk retweeted it. That generated enough attention for someone to launch a meme token called CHILLGUY on Solana on October 6. But here’s what feels uncomfortable: Phillip Banks, the original creator, publicly stated that he doesn’t approve of his creation being used for cryptocurrency projects, especially tokens without real backing. He even threatened legal action.

Despite that, the token was listed. And that’s what makes this case interesting. Other meme coins without official licensing, like CHIIKAWA or LUCE, had been rejected by major platforms. But CHILLGUY broke that pattern. Maybe because the cultural phenomenon was so strong, or maybe because platforms saw an opportunity in the trend. The truth is, it opens a new door for unauthorized tokens.

Currently, CHILLGUY is trading at around $0.01 with a 24-hour volume of 45.29K, while MORPHO is at $1.78 with a more solid movement. But beyond the numbers, what intrigues me is how this meme captures something about Generation Z’s psychology: that strategic detachment, that acceptance that simply surviving is already enough of a battle. And somehow, meme cryptocurrencies became the perfect vehicle to express that. The intersection of copyright, internet culture, and decentralized finance is only just starting to play out. Chill guy is only the first act.
