Baltic Dry Bulk Freight Index Rises, Increased Demand for Capesize and Panamax Ships
On March 18 (Wednesday), the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) rose, driven by increased demand for Capesize and Panamax vessels. The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) was up 40 points, or about 2%, from the previous trading day, to 2,064 points. The Capesize Index (BCI) rose 98 points, or 3.4%, to 2,986 points. The average daily earnings for Capesize ships increased by $883 to $123.6k. The Panamax Index (BPI) rose 38 points, or 2.1%, to 1,891 points. The average daily earnings for Panamax ships increased by $342 to $17,016. The Supramax index (BSI) fell 16 points, or 1.3%, to 1,240 points. The Handysize index (BHSI) fell 11 points to 759 points.
