Galaxy Futures: Propylene load continues to decline, export expectations increase

Domestic propylene feedstock demand has declined, and some domestic manufacturers are being forced to cut production. With input materials generally rising, expanded losses have led to more propylene plants shutting down or running at reduced load; PDH operating rates are expected to continue falling. In Japan and South Korea as well, propylene units have either been shut down or reduced load, resulting in loss of production capacity. Along with companies’ raw material consumption, the number of units operating at reduced load or shut down may persist, and industry load is expected to be further lowered. On the supply-and-demand side, there is support. In January and February, propylene import volumes increased year over year but fell month over month; in January, export volumes increased significantly. We should continue to monitor the situation in the Middle East and the status of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. (Galaxy Futures)
