These are three voice messages sent at 11:26 a.m. on November 26, 2021 by Fu Xiao-hua, a third-level police officer at the Xiongjiashan Police Station of the Dangyang Municipal Public Security Bureau in Hubei Province.

At the time, he was carrying out a routine safety patrol at the Changban Reservoir and found what appeared to be an invasive alien species near the reservoir. While taking evidence with his phone, he accidentally fell into the water and died on the spot at the age of 53.

When Fu Xiao-hua, recognized as a “Model of Jingchu,” made the ultimate sacrifice, his daughter Danning Lin was studying for a graduate degree. “I can’t imagine what the days would be like without my dad, but I’m proud of him.” At the funeral, she was sobbing uncontrollably.

Previously, when filling out her university applications after the college entrance exam, Danning Lin thought being a police officer was “a tough job,” and she chose the schools and majors she was interested in. After graduating with her undergraduate degree, she went to the western mountain areas to volunteer for teaching for one year, gradually coming to understand her father’s sense of responsibility.

Two years after Fu Xiao-hua died in the line of duty, in 2023, Danning Lin graduated from graduate school. She turned down the olive branches offered by universities and “big tech firms,” and became an auxiliary police officer in the Traffic Police Detachment of the Yichang Municipal Public Security Bureau.
