Venezuela confirms agreement to restore diplomatic and consular relations with the United States

On the 5th, local time, Venezuela’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that after Venezuela established diplomatic dialogue with the United States, the governments of the two countries have decided to restore diplomatic and consular relations. Earlier that day, the U.S. State Department announced that the United States and the Venezuelan government have agreed to resume diplomatic and consular relations. Because the United States has continued to interfere in Venezuela’s internal affairs, Venezuela severed diplomatic relations with the United States in January 2019, and all diplomatic personnel from the U.S. embassy in Venezuela withdrew in March of that year. On January 3 this year, U.S. forces launched a large-scale military strike against Venezuela, forcibly took control of President Maduro of Venezuela and his wife, and brought them to the United States. On January 31, a U.S. diplomatic mission arrived in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and both sides restarted diplomatic contacts. (CCTV News)
