On April 8, CNN reported that US officials stated the Trump administration is preparing to hold face-to-face negotiations between US and Iranian officials in the coming days, aiming to reach a long-term agreement to end the conflict between Washington and Tehran. White House Press Secretary Levitt said, “The possibility of holding face-to-face talks is currently being discussed, but nothing is finalized until the President or the White House makes an official announcement.” Officials indicated that the talks are likely to take place in Islamabad, with Pakistan acting as a mediator. They added that the likelihood of the talks occurring has increased given the two-week ceasefire agreement announced by the US and Iran tonight. According to officials, Trump’s envoy Hook, son-in-law Kushner, and Vice President Pence are expected to attend. Pence is currently visiting Hungary, and sources say he may add a stop to his itinerary if the timing is right.
