just looked up kangal dog size out of curiosity and wow, these things are absolutely massive. like, males hitting 28-34 inches at the shoulder and up to 150 pounds? that's basically a small bear. no wonder they were originally bred to guard livestock against wolves and bears—they literally look intimidating enough to do the job lol
what's wild is their bite is supposedly stronger than a lion's. never would've guessed that about a dog breed. apparently kangal dog size peaks around 2-3 years old, so if you get one young it's this whole growth journey watching them become an absolute unit
though not gonna lie, that kind of size comes with responsibility. they need serious space, regular exercise, proper diet to stay healthy. and yeah, like most large breeds they're prone to hip dysplasia so vet checkups are important. kangal dogs aren't for apartment living for sure
they seem like solid guard dogs if you've got the setup for them though. been around for centuries in Turkey and apparently they're pretty loyal once trained right. anyone here have experience with the breed?
