An Illinois state legislator in the United States has proposed a new bill to allow public funds to invest in Bitcoin treasury company stocks.

ME News message, March 31 (UTC+8), Steve McClure, a U.S. Illinois state senator, introduced the SB3672 bill------《Local Government Digital Asset Investment Act》. The bill would amend the state’s《Public Funds Investment Act》, allowing public institutions to allocate up to 5% of public funds to bitcoin-related financial products. Under the bill’s definitions, the eligible “digital asset shares” must be equity in a publicly listed company, and that company must be verified by its latest audited financial statements as holding at least 25% of its total assets in bitcoin or other digital currencies. This threshold would bring into the investment scope companies such as Strategy, Twenty One Capital, Metaplanet, and Semler Scientific, which focus on bitcoin accumulation as a core strategy. The bill also allows public funds to invest in bitcoin ETFs and bitcoin bonds, with added transparency requirements. (Source: ChainCatcher)
