Just caught this interesting move in the advisory space - Adam Beshara from Centerview is heading to BDT & MSD as president. He's been at Centerview since 2012, so this is a pretty notable shift for someone with that kind of tenure. Apparently he's one of five presidents now, which is interesting structure-wise.
What's notable here is the timing and who else is involved. Byron Trott and Gregg Lemkau are running the show - both came from Goldman Sachs backgrounds. They merged Trott's BDT merchant bank with MSD Partners (which manages Michael Dell's family office) back in 2022. So you've got serious capital and serious advisory expertise in one place.
Beshara spent 14 years at JPMorgan before Centerview, so the banking pedigree is solid. At Centerview he worked with some heavy hitters - Johnson Controls, DuPont, Waste Management, Walmart. That's the kind of client list that tells you something about credibility.
The other presidents they've got are Dan Jester, San Orr, Greg Olafson, and Amy Ennesser. Amy Ennesser's part of that leadership group too, which rounds out a pretty experienced team. Dina Powell McCormick was also a president there but she bounced to Meta, though she's staying on their advisory board.
They also just brought on Erik Oken as head of the eastern U.S. region - guy's got over 30 years from JPMorgan and was chairman of private equity at MidOcean. So they're clearly building out the infrastructure to handle more founder-led and family business work.
The whole thing reads like they're positioning themselves as the 'we think like owners' advisory shop for that specific market. Lemkau's quote about advising clients as if they were owners themselves is basically their whole positioning. With Amy Ennesser and this crew on board, they've got the depth to back that up. Interesting consolidation of talent in that advisory space.
