Iran in the news, WTI crude oil jumping to a six-month high. Um, after it seems there’s a bit of an escalation and anytime the Straits of Hormuz, where I think 25% of the mobile oil supply passes through any any given day, anytime that’s mentioned, we see prices jump. Maybe, uh, that’s a little bit extreme, but how are you game playing this out?
00:29 Speaker B
Well, I think with Iran, you know, we’re clearly in another, uh, classic Trumpian escalate to de-escalate cycle. We’ve seen this a whole host of different times in both the trade and geopolitical realm. Right now with Iran, the kind of massive mobilization of military hardware into the region, uh, is clearly, uh, signaling we’re still kind of in the ramp up on the escalation cycle. But I think President Trump at this stage is still keeping his options open. I think negotiators are supposed to get together again, uh, on Thursday. I think President Trump kind of instinctively would prefer a diplomatic off-ramp, uh, if he can find one. I think instinctually, he’s not super keen on having a, a big open-ended war in the Middle East, uh, especially at a moment you show the gas prices, uh, the oil prices, especially at a moment where consumers are very focused on affordability and they, you know, you could see a feedback, uh, to gas prices. So I think Trump at this point keeping his options open. Uh, you know, he may have to, uh, do something kind of of a limited nature, strike something to show that he’s serious and that’ll take us even one step further up the escalation ladder, but I do think ultimately we are back in the escalate to de-escalate cycle, and President Trump does not want to do something that ultimately unravels the whole situation and makes a a war in the Middle East the story of his uh, his term.
