I just realized that we are in the middle of Holy Week 2026, and there are still people who don't quite understand how this rest period works. The thing is, Holy Week runs from March 29 to April 5, but here’s the catch: neither Thursday the 2nd nor Friday the 3rd are mandatory holidays according to the law. So if your company doesn’t give you those days off, technically you have to go to work.

But well, most companies do give at least Friday off, so many manage to create a long weekend of three or four days. Students have it easier because the SEP vacations started on March 26 and last until April 13. Banks close their windows on Thursday and Friday, but ATMs and online banking operate normally.

What’s really special is what happens in Iztapalapa with the Passion of Christ. This year is especially notable because that tradition was just recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Imagine, more than 5,000 actors and volunteers participate in that performance at Cerro de la Estrella. Holy Week in Iztapalapa is one of those things that truly has cultural significance; it’s not just another holiday. If you don’t have plans yet, you might want to check out what the Via Crucis is like, especially now that it has that international recognition. Anyway, Holy Week 2026 is a good time to rest, even if just a little.
