OpenAI Rethinks Pricing for 2 Million Builders Using Its AI Coding Agent

OpenAI Adopts Pay-As-You-Go for Codex
The company is now adopting a pay-as-you-go pricing model “to make adoption easier” for teams on its Business and Enterprise plans for its AI chatbot, ChatGPT. More than two million builders use Codex every week, OpenAI said, adding that the goal is also to make Codex pricing easier to understand.
“Codex-only seats have no rate limits, and usage is billed on token consumption,” the AI startup clarified. “This gives you a clearer view of how usage turns into spending and makes it easier to track costs across budgets, workflows, and teams.”
OpenAI Doubles Down on Profit Chase
OpenAI also lowered the annual price of its ChatGPT Business from $25 to $20 per seat. It comes on the same day tech giant Microsoft MSFT +0.58% ▲ rolled out three new in-house AI models it said were “better, faster, and cheaper.”
As competition in the AI industry continues to intensify, OpenAI, in its push for profitability, has shifted its strategy to focus on its coding and enterprise customers.
In February, it tapped several consulting giants to help businesses deploy AI agents across their enterprises. This is even as OpenAI aims to help fuel practical AI adoption this year.
Yet, everyday users remain key, as the company has recently launched ad-based pilot plans on ChatGPT. This comes as OpenAI has massively grown its revenue and said it now rakes in $2 billion monthly.
Which Is the Best AI Stock to Buy?
TipRanks’ OpenAI Stock tool shows that enterprise software giant Oracle ORCL +0.54% ▲ currently offers the biggest upside of about 68%. This is based on an average price target of $245.11 and comes with a Strong Buy rating.
